VIGNOBLES MOREAU

SAINT-ÉMILION GRAND CRU

FRENCH VERSION

AT THE HEART SAINT EMILION'S BEST VINEYARDS

Gaëtan Moreau has headed up this 2.27-hectare wine estate since 1993, with the estate undergoing a major transformation in 2013. The merlot vines that produce the vineyard’s Saint-Émilion Grand Cru wines flourish on a site of superb quality adjoining prestigious vineyards like Châteaux Faugères, Fleur Cardinale, Pressac (Grands Crus Classés) and Valandraud (1er Grand Cru Classé). The result? Wines distinguished by their elegance, typicity, racy nature and sheer drinking pleasure.

THE ESTATE’S WINES

The estate produces two wines which faithfully reflect the characteristics of the terroir on which they are grown. Château La Voûte is a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru wine and its younger relation, La Clef de Voûte, is a Saint-Émilion.

Saint Emilion terroir

THE TERROIR

We grow our vines using the supervised control approach, which includes the use of sexual confusion control techniques. We cover plant one row in two, alternating them with rows which have been mechanically ploughed. This allows a variety of flora and fauna to flourish throughout the year.

HARVESTING

Harvesting is carried out by hand, using sorting tables and ‘cagettes’ (small trays). Grapes are gently transported to inverted stainless steel tronconic tanks by means of a peristaltic pump. They are subjected to cold maceration for a few days before being fermented for about a week, then macerated for 2 to 3 weeks depending on the wine in question.

Saint Emilion Grand Cru

AGING

With the Château La Voûte, we lovingly blend wine that’s been aged in French oak barrels sourced from 5 different coopers, each of which have been painstakingly selected. The wine is aged between 14 to 16 months, depending on the particular wine.
Our fresh, fruity La Clef de Voûte is aged in tanks.

THE CELLAR

Entirely renovated in 2019, the cellar invites curiosity. Its elliptical-shaped infrastructure, designed by Gaëtan Moreau, was conceived to provide optimal working flexibility.
The ergonomics of this space, in line with the state-of-the-art equipment it houses, adapts to each vintage vinification process. It's a question of balance!
On one side of the cellar, are positioned inverted tapered stainless-steel tanks whose dimensions correspond to a very specific vineyard plot.
On the other side, the barrels are suspended in space. This bespoke shelving system adapts perfectly to the oval walls of the building and allows minimal handling of the barrels.

OUR WINES

The Château La Voûte is very much part of a tradition of superb Saint Émilion wines, endowed with a delicate woody character, mouth-filling and a delight to drink. Perfect for special occasions – what’s more, it has good aging potential.
La Clef de Voûte, as Gaëtan Moreau likes to say, is a wine to enjoy with friends, generous, fruity, refreshing - great for sharing and enjoying life to the full together!

TASTING NOTES

2019

Château La Voûte

  • 93-95/100 - Yves Beck

Tasted by Yves Beck, on 28.03.2020:
Note : 93-95/100

  • 93+/100 - Adrien Van Velsen
  • 91/92/100 - Vert de Vin
  • 89-91/100 - Neal Martin

Barrel tasted by Robert Parker:
Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 La Voute delivers notes of chargrill, tar and black soil over a core of blackberries and red and black plums. The palate is medium to full-bodied with firm, ripe tannins and a compelling racy line lifting the intense red and black fruits, leading to a long finish.
Note : 92-94/100

Barrel tasted by Yves Beck:
Aging potential: 2022–2037
Note : 94–96/100

La Clef de Voûte

Because of the climatic events that happened during spring, the domain has not produced La Clef de Voûte in 2017.

The nose is fruty and offers a slight intensity. It reveals notes of fleshy black-berry, fleshy cassis and small notes of rasberry, sour cherry associated with small/ fine touches of flowers as well as discreet hints of sweet spices / liquorice and discreet hint of Cuben pepper. The palate is fruity, juicy, well-balanced and offers a good definition, gourmandise, roudness, suavity, a good freshness as well as an acidulous frame. On the palate this wine expresses notes of crunchy cassis, juicy blackberry and small notes of juicy raspberry, crushed / acidulous and berries associated with slight / discreet touches of flowers / liquorice as well as a very discreet hint of vanilla and an imperceptible hint of chocolate (in the background). Tannins are fine and very slighty tight.
